Iran Speeds Up Production AP, 21st February 2008,
Of Nuclear Warheads Brussels, Belgium:
An exiled Iranian opposition group on yesterday claimed that Tehran has accelerat-
ed its alleged nuclear weapons programme, including the production of nuclear
war-heads.
“The Iran regime entered a new phase in its nuclear project,” said Mohammad Mo-
haddessin, a representative of the Paris based National Council of Resistance of Iran.
He claimed that, for the first time, Tehran had established a command and control
centre to work on a nuclear bomb and that south east of the capital it was also set-
ting up a centre to produce warheads. In December, the U.S. National Intelligence
Estimate said that Iran halted a nuclear weapons development programme in 2003
because of international pressure.
Mohaddessin told a news conference that Iran had closed down one centre only to
open another later with the same purpose. He called the US report “not accu-
rate.” He said he had provided the latest information to the Vienna based Interna-
tional Atomic Energy Agency on Tuesday and urged then to investigate more sites in
Iran and interview more scientists. “Lack of firmness by the international community
has offered the regime the opportunity to get closer to obtaining the nuclear
bomb,” he said.

Iran on brink of nuclear weapon, warns watchdog
Iran has passed a crucial nuclear threshold, weapons inspectors have
warned, and could now go on to arm an atomic missile with relative ease.

A report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Iranian nuclear sci-
entists had made at least 22 kilograms of enriched uranium up to 20 per cent purity, a
technical hurdle that is the hardest to overcome on the way to weapons-grade urani-
um. ...Experts estimate that 20 kgs of uranium is a significant step toward arming a
warhead. The uranium would still need to have its purity raised to 90 per cent, but
that is a relatively easy process. The agency's report comes in spite of the recent impo-
sition at the United Nations of a fresh round of sanctions against Iran and will height-
en fears of an Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear plants.. The Vienna-based nuclear
watchdog indicated Tehran had maintained its absolute defiance of international
pressure to curb its programme despite the imposition of harsh sanctions in May.
